Message from the Flotilla CommanderHappy 2010! I’m not sure how all of you feel but I’m glad to have 2009 in my rear view mirror. We all have a lot to look forward to as we enter this New Year and I hope and that 2010 brings health and prosperity to all. I’m looking forward to a new year for our Flotilla. Our membership and activities have been declining over the past couple of years and we are exiting 2009 with 38 active members. We have some work ahead to rebuild our membership and outreach in the community, but we are fortunate to have an excellent group of members that have stepped up to be Staff Officers to help lead us to new heights – my thanks to all. We have several open positions and every FSO can use an assistant so please let me know if you would like to help. We are starting 2010 off on the right foot with the addition of two new members, Jonathan Nicholls and Tia Magnus – congratulations to both. I’m very encouraged with the excitement and enthusiasm of our newer members as well as the continued commitment by those of us “experienced” in providing the best possible support to the Coast Guard. I’m very open for comments or suggestions on how to improve our activities this year. I promise to keep meetings as brief and informative as possible, pass on information on activities and issues that are sent to me that are relevant, and try to foster an atmosphere of fun while we serve our community. The Flotilla is only as good as the effort you put into it – one New Year’s resolution I ask that each of us look at is stepping into an additional area/function/specialty next year. Venture out and try something different like vessel exams or being an instructor, maybe take that one additional course to become AUXOP, or expand your crew skills and become a member of Operation Excellence.
